Embrace the Challenge

As first-generation women and trailblazers, we carry a unique strength. We are often the first: the first to dream bigger, to break cycles, to walk paths our families have never seen. And while that role is powerful, it can also feel heavy. When life becomes overwhelming, it’s natural to want to retreat back into our comfort zone. But remember this truth: If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.

Most of us don’t fall short of our biggest goals because we’re unprepared or incapable. We fall short because the unknown feels intimidating. The journey feels too long. We haven’t seen anyone in our family do it before. And too often, we try to take on challenges alone instead of leaning on our Amigas the ones who lift us, support us, and remind us that we are stronger than our fear.

Last weekend, I embarked on the journey to walk a marathon all 26.2 miles. By mile 10, I was ready to quit. My feet hurt, my mind was doubting, and I wondered whether I had prepared enough. But my Amigas were right there beside me, cheering me on, holding space for my struggle, and breathing belief back into me. Their presence reminded me of something powerful: our biggest obstacle is rarely physical ability — it’s mental endurance. Growth happens when we stay outside our comfort zone long enough for transformation to take root.

At La Primera, our mission is built on core values of community, courage, and long-term vision. Our 3-Step Framework helps guide you through challenging moments with clarity and purpose:

1. Seek Support from Your Amigas

Lean into your community — they are your strength when doubt grows loud.

2. Recommit to Your Long-Term Vision

Slow down, breathe, and return to the purpose behind your journey. Your why!

3. Proceed with Purpose

Move forward with intention, not urgency. Small steps still move you closer. For me last weekend was celebrating each mile we completed.

You are not meant to walk your journey alone. Stay the course, embrace the challenge, and trust that every step even the uncomfortable ones is shaping your future. Even if at times you need to get on a bus to move forward. There is no shame on getting assistance along the way.

And always remember… Today is a Happy Day!
